Education

Originally from Missouri, I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) with a B.S. in Psychology in 2016. After graduating, I moved to Fort Worth, Texas where I received my M.S. in Experimental Psychology: emphasis in Cognitive Psychology in 2019 and my Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology: emphasis in Cognitive Psychology in 2021 from Texas Christian University (TCU). As part of my graduate training, I also have a minor in quantitative statistics.

Teaching Experience

My teaching goals are to create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that facilitates critical thinking, promotes long-term retention and application of course content, and supports students’ development of skills important for academic and professional success. I do this by 1) implementing evidence-based strategies to improve students' learning, 2) facilitating active learning through activities that foster critical thinking and application of course content, and 3) mentoring students both inside and outside of the classroom.

Research Interests

In my applied and educational-focused program of research, I conduct research aimed at 1) identifying factors that impact students' learning and learning environments, 2) developing strategies to improve students' learning, and 3) identifying pedagogical tools instructors can implement in their classes to support students' learning. Check out some areas below that I am currently exploring and featured publications.

>What factors impact the quality of students' notes?

>What can instructors do to facilitate superior note-taking in their courses?

Mentoring

One of my favorite aspects of teaching and research is getting to know and mentor students. Informally, I've mentored students through providing guidance about courses, graduate school, and research opportunities. Formally, I have worked with an Honors student on her undergraduate thesis that turned into a peer-reviewed publication, a McNair Scholar, and many undergraduate research assistants at the TCU Metacognition, Memory, and Aging lab.

I am currently accepted applications for undergraduate research assistants (RAs). Click here to fill out and submit an application.
